Group Condemns Call for Emergency Rule in Ekiti By Yemi Akinsuyi The International Group for Awareness on Democracy (IGAD) has condemned the recent call for a state of emergency in Ekiti State by some people it referred to as 'mischievous' and 'disgruntled' politicians in the state. In a statement signed by IGAD's Executive Director, Sina Awelewa and made available to our reporter, said the call was not only uncalled for but also undemocratic, retrogressive, unconstitutional, unpopular and self-centered. The statement added that said posterity would never forgive any selfish individual, who put his personal interes above the general interest of Ekiti people to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere being currently enjoyed by the people of Ekiti. "We in IGAD abhor unwanrnated thugery and senseless political radicalism. We call on the good people of Ekiti State to join hands with the State Government in its frantic and indefatigable efforts to improve the standard of living of the people" he said.
