IBADAN — THE National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has sealed off an alleged illegal private Television Station at Bodija area of Ibadan.
Beside the sealing off, the owner of the private television station Mr. Famakinde Adedoyin was arrested but was later released by the police.
The police said that investigation has already begun into the activities of the private Television Station while NBC warned “any one engaging in any transaction with the man or organization does so at his or her own risk”.
The NBC team led by its head of operation, Mr. Eddy Aina stormed the television station premises with armed policemen and sealed it off.
It was reliably gathered at the premises of the illegal television station that no fewer than 186 persons have already applied for appointment into various offices in the illegal station.
Sealing off the station, simply tagged “United Tribes of African System Television Authority UTASTAD, Mr. Aina said there was no time the proprietor of the illegal television station applied for license from the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).
The NBC head of operations stressed that for anybody to establish a television station in the country, such a person must apply for a license from the NBC and that such a license must be duly signed by the President and Commander-in-Chief.
"This Commission, (NBC), wishes to reiterate that it has not granted any license for the operation of any station by that name and is therefore, illegal going by Act 38 of 1992 and the amendment, Act 55 of 1999".
Mr. Aina therefore warned members of the public especially prospective applicants, job seekers, shareholders or donors that the said proprietor of the illegal station have nothing to do with the NBC. The NBC Head of Operations stated that already, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have been petitioned by applicants to the illegal television station, adding “the EFCC thus asked the NBC to locate the station for it”.
