Anambra to construct community health centres in 21 LGs

By Chimaobi Nwaiwu
Friday, October 01, 2004

NNEWI — ANAMBRA state Government has resolved to construct community health care centres in all the 21 Local   Government Areas in the State.  The Health Centres are to be constructed under its community health care delivery project,   where the Government will post medical doctors and provide drugs for health centres in the communities according to Dr.   Ifeanyichukwu Chukwuka,  Senior Special Assistant on Mobilization and National Orientation to Governor Chris Ngige.    Chukwuka who spoke in an interview  said this was the result of series of meetings Dr. Ngige and Commissioner for Health,   Professor Brian Adinma had with over ten medical doctors from the state who are residing in America.

According to him, “Ten New Jersey, United States of America, based Medical practitioners of Anambra State Origin have   concluded plans to send ship load of Medical Equipment worth millions of naira to assist the State Government in the   Community Health care delivery project”.

He also disclosed that the doctors have also agreed to come to the state to render services in their areas of specialization, some   of them are Prof. Ofodile a world renowned Surgeon and Dr. Eruchalu.

Reacting to the alleged N300 million spent by Governor Ngige to prosecute his recent USA trip for World Igbo Congress, Dr.   Chukwuka described the allegation as a “calculated attempt by the opposition to smear the image of the governor. He said, “the   State Government provided only $1,700 for six days for five officials of the state government who were in the governors   entourage, the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Brian Adinma, Mr. Fred Chukwulobe, Senior Special Assistant on Media and   Publicity, Chief Chris Atuegwu, Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr. Ozor Ughamadu, Deputy Speaker, State House of   Assembly, Chief Tony Igboka, member representing Njikoka Local Government in the State House of Assembly and my   humble self, while the traditional rulers and members of Ohanaeze Ndigbo who were in USA for the World Igbo Congress paid   their way to USA.”
Prof. Adinma in the house of his friend in Newark Chief David Edoh”. Said Chukwuka.
