Anambra State Governor, Dr.
Chris Ngige has described Daily Independent newspaper as one which has
indeed taken its pride of place in the nations newspaper industry within
so short a time.
Ngige, who disclosed this
through his senior special assistant on media and publicity, Mr. Fred
Chukwuelobe, said that he associates himself and the government of Anambra
State with the successes recorded so far in educating, informing and
entertaining their numerous readers.
We find the paper incisive,
colourful and the articles, news written in the best journalism grammar.
We hope the workers will continue to break further grounds as they move
into the next phase of operations, he said.
Ngige further said that
Anambra State will like to see the newspaper consolidate its editorials
into one and give the newspaper opinion on issues of national importance
and detailed treatment.
Similarly, indigenes of
Anambra State have described Daily Independent newspaper as the toast of the
state, saying the newspaper had become the only reliable printed form in
the area of information dissemination.
Investigation carried out in
Awka the Anambra State capital showed that most readers in the state
capital are demanding for an establishment of a branch office in the
area.
Former chairman of the Nigeria
Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Anambra State, Chief Nathaniel Anigbo, said
that since the newspaper began circulating in the state, it had done
wonderfully well in terms of providing good news coverage, excellent lay
out and better colour separation.
Much as we would like to
place advertisement in the paper, we cannot locate your office. We need to
see an office called Daily Independent newspaper here in Awka, he
said.
Also speaking, a lecturer at
Federal Polytechnic Oko in Orumba North Local Government Area, Mr. Alex
Ohale, said that the newspaper is a national daily anyone would want to
associate himself with.
With the introduction of the
bits, handling all walks of life, I think, the paper has gone a long way
in the Nigerian media industry, However, efforts should be geared towards
the business news with particular reference to carving out an in-depth
journalism on the true nature of Nigerian economy and probably proffering
solutions to the nations economic problems.
Mr. Chris Anyamene, a Senior
Lecturer In Microbiology and Assistant Dean Students Affairs, Nnamdi
Azikiwe University, Awka described the paper as a family newspaper that
can keep the home busy all day.
He further said that the
quality of news reporting and balancing of reports ranks high and above
other national newspapers but noted that the newspaper should improve upon
its success by establishing an office in the state capital just like other
national dailies.
Meanwhile, vendors in Awka,
Onitsha, Ekwulobia and Nnewi towns have extended their congratulatory
messages to Daily Independent newspaper on its three yeas in the print
industry, saying, so far the newspaper has come to stay.
According to Chizoba, a vendor
at Government House, Awka, the newspaper is the most sought for and if it
is yet to come into Awka, readers keep hanging around until it comes.
Before it was difficult but today it is Daily Independent or nothing
more.
The vendors, however, appealed
to the management of the newspaper to organise a meeting with them in
order to create an avenue for interaction on the way forward in the print
media and in vendors/newspaper owners relationship.
