Nigeria at 44: Gov Mua'zu Preaches Peace

As Nigeria celebrates its 44th Independent Anni-versary, the Bauchi State Governor, Dr. Ahmadu Adamu Mu'azu has appealed to Nigerians to dedicate the occasion towards resolving the nation's common problems without recourse to sectional, ethnic or religious sentiments.
The Governor who made the appeal on the occasion of nation's independence anni-versary on Friday at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium (ATBS), Bauchi also enjoined the citizenry to continue to exhibit the spirit of patriotism and the desire to make Bauchi State and Nigeria great.
Mu'azu then reiterated the need for Nigeria's leaders to be more alive to their responsibilities of harnessing the nation's resources for the benefit of all Nigerians adding that they should also ensure the growth and sustenance of the nation's nascent democracy.
While pointing out that "Nigeria is not a poor nation", the Governor said that it was the failure of the leaders that was responsible "for Nige-rians to be enclave by shackles of poverty."
He said that as leaders "we have a responsibility to the people and to God the Almighty, to ensure that we use the God sent resources of the country for the benefit of Nigerian".
The Governor urged Nigerians to bury their differences and use them as sources of strength rather allowing others to exploit the differences to perpetuate their backwardness.
While highlighting the achievements of his administration in the past five years, Governor Mu'azu disclosed that the government was built over 5,000 kilometers of roads, and have also electrified over 378 towns and villages across the state.
He added that about 400 communities have been provided with potable water and 1908 existing water schemes have been rehabilitated explaining that so far over 10,000 youth have benefited from his government's poverty Alleviation programmes.
According to him, "another set of 30,000 will benefit this year from our poverty alleviation programme in which our youth are being trained in different skill acquisition programme with varying loans to start their own business", even as he highlighted the various achievements recorded in other sector of the state economy.
