Fuel Price Hike: Bauchi Students Angry With FG
From Segun Awofadeji in Bauchi
As controversy continues to trail the recent hike in the prices of petroleum products in the country, the National Union of Bauchi State Students (NUBASS) has described the increment as "no only anti-masses and anti-democracy but satanic for any sane government to add more to the burden of its citizenry at this point in time."
The National President of the union, Malam Mohammed Jungudo who spoke at a well attended press conference held at the union's secretariat, Bauchi condemned the increment in the prices of petroleum products in Nigeria saying that the "fuel increment at this point of our national life is a satanic agenda for the second time enslavement of the Nigerian masses which was unilaterally imposed by the dictatorship government of president Olusagun Obasanjo".
While also condemning "in totality the labour bill passed by the National Assembly", Jungudo said that the action was a conspiracy between the Obasanjo - led government and the nation's lawmakers.
He pointed out that the increment in fuel prices as well as other unpopular reform agenda of the present administration would further "impoverished and pauperized Nigerians who now live at the mercy of God", and called on well meaning Nigerians and progressives to join forces and find a positive solution to "the Obasanjo satanic agenda aimed at enslaving us".
The President who was visibly angry also decried the present level of insecurity in the country in general and Bauchi State in particular, and called on the government, security agencies and other related stakeholders to evolve measures to tackle the problem headlong.
Jungudo however commended the efforts of the State Police Commissioner, Alhaji Mukhtar Abbas in combating armed robbery and other crimes across the state and its environs, enjoined the people of the state to join hands with the Police Command towards ensuring security to the lives and property of the citizenry.
