Bauchi House Wants Judicial Service Commission Sacked
From Segun Awofadeji in Bauchi
The Bauchi State House of Assembly has ordered the immediate dissolution of the state Judicial service commission (JSC).
This was in reaction to the non-compliance of an earlier directive to re-instate some retired judicial staff by the commission as well as ensure that justice and fairness prevailed in all the actions of government apparatus.
A motion moved by Hon. Lawal Yahaya Gumau prayed the House to dissolve the Judicial service commission due to what he described as using personal interest to over-ride its official conduct.
The motion seconded by Hon. Aliyu Jibrin Tafida-Lere said that the position of the commission was contrary to some relevant sections of the constitution, especially for its refusal to comply with the House resolution on the matter.
The motion which ensued debate among members unanimously agreed for the immediate dissolution of the commission. The speaker of the House, Hon. Tanko Ibrahim Jalam used his veto power in dousing down the tension generated by the debate before deliberation continues next week.
It would be recalled that the state legislative Assembly recently passed a resolution calling on the state Judicial service commission to re-absorb some retired judges in the stat within two weeks or face the wrath of the House.
This followed a report submitted by the House committee on Public Petition to re-appeal for review of compulsory retirement of Alhaji Hussaini Nuhu and Nine others by the Judicial service commission.
The Chairman of the committee, Hon. Abdullahi Shehu Yayu had prayed the House to consider the plight of the affected persons who were retired prematurely saying that the committee had made several consultations with a view to ascertain the true position of the matter in respect of the compulsory retirement of the Judges.
