Vmobile's New Quest for Corporate Identity
By Raheem Akingbolu
When the boardroom intrigues that made two foreign partners withdraw their partnership to one after the other, when the company changed name from Econet to Vodacom and later to Vmobile, not a few people waved the company aside as an unserious organization. This was so because of the inherent evil marketing experts say frequent name changes cause for a brand. But as constant as northern star, Vmobile through their colour red with their eagle illustrated logo is still fighting hard to stick consistently to our consciousness. Just as clothes project an instant impression of the individual, so do the graphics of a firm. Vmobile in this new quest has been making frantic efforts in its world class spirit to impress it on consumers though that it has permanently dropped its erstwhile dull and mundane outlook. Even without any foreign alliance, they want to prove that they can successfully arrive at their destination and stay glued to their coined legend: It's all about commitment. Through their distinctive graphics and red colour, they are quietly creating a world of their own and distinguishing their brands from those of other competitors. A new message of substance and professionalism is now sinking into the minds of Nigerians.
What is now expected of Vmobile management board as they are quickly dropping the stigma of inconsistency is to, in the same speed re-engineer the transmission and satellite network of the company so it won't be a case of empty barrel making the loudest noise. Apart from working toward expansion of their network, they should in spirit of their It's all about caring strive to make subscribers feel comfortable with their service. However, Vmobile public relation manager, Emeka Opara in a statement last week, a copy of which was made available for THISDAY said the company was currently upgrading the switches in some Nigerian cities to pave way for better services.
Not until Vmobile painstakingly puts behind them the epileptic performances of the past that we will all agree that they actual have a passion for all to be heard.
