TEXT-ALIGN: justify; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none"><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial">Aikhomu s principled position has however placed him at a loggerhead with his former boss under who he was military vice-president.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="TEXT-INDENT: 0.1in; TEXT-ALIGN: justify; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none"><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial">Babangida has lately been making efforts to rejuvenate his dream of ruling the country after it appeared that his chances of clinching the presidential nomination under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were slimmer.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="TEXT-INDENT: 0.1in; TEXT-ALIGN: justify; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none"><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial">The former military president is believed to have invested so much in the seeming endless crises rocking the opposition ANPP with the hope of using that party as a backup in the event that his dream becomes piped in the PDP.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="TEXT-INDENT: 0.1in; TEXT-ALIGN: justify; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none"><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial">Sokoto State governor, Attahiru Bafarawa, who is believed to be Babangida s foot soldier in ANPP, along with General Jerry Useni, has also done so much for Babangida in the party, including influencing majority of the party s state s chairmen to sack the party s national chairman, Don Etiebet.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="TEXT-INDENT: 0.1in; TEXT-ALIGN: justify; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none"><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial">The other state governors and other influential members recently rose in defence of Etiebet to check the over-bearing influence of the Sokoto State Governor.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="TEXT-INDENT: 0.1in; TEXT-ALIGN: justify; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none"><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial">The coalition of Babangida, Bafarawa and Useni has also failed in their attempt to use the party s Board of Trustees, headed by Aikhomu to teach Etiebet some bitter political lesson.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="TEXT-INDENT: 0.1in; TEXT-ALIGN: justify; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none"><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial">At the meeting, Aikhomu was to prevail on the other ANPP governors to support Bafarawa s  operation flush out Etiebet. <o:p></o:p></SPAN></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="TEXT-INDENT: 0.1in; TEXT-ALIGN: justify; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none"><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial">After agreeing to summon a meeting of the Board at his Mississipi Street, Maitama, Abuja residence, on September 27, 2004, Aikhomu played a fast one on Babangida by telling him that he would not be able to attend the meeting for he had to travel to Lagos due to the death of his elder brother.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="TEXT-INDENT: 0.1in; TEXT-ALIGN: justify; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none"><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial">Aikhomu s absence denied Babangida the opportunity to use him to achieve his political objective.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="TEXT-INDENT: 0.1in; TEXT-ALIGN: justify; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none"><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial">At the meeting, which was presided over by Governor Bukar Abba Ibrahim of Yobe State, stakeholders in the party decided to commence full resolution of the crisis instead of sacking Etiebet as demanded by Bafarawa.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp;
