Friday, October 1st 2004 HOME | back to previous page CPs to rely on intelligence network By Chris Agbambu Deputy Bureau Chief, Abuja   The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Tafa Balogun has charged state police commissioners to properly utilise all reliable intelligence reports at their disposal to pre-empt crisis situations such as labour unrest, cult activities and religious fundamentalism. Addressing the quarterly conference of commissioners of police and other top officers, Balogun warned all the men to eschew all forms of corruption, abuse of office and to be civil to all members of the public in the spirit of the community policing model, which has taken off in Enugu State and will be introduced progressively in all the states of the federation. While commending senior officers and men of the force for sustaining low crime level nationwide, the IGP urged the commissioners to set up anti-corruption monitoring units nationwide to arrest both police extortioners and those who corrupt policemen on public highways as the criminal code makes it criminal offence both the act of giving and receiving bribe and gratification by public officers. He also advised the commissioners to protect all police formations and barracks and all other vulnerable points nationwide from attack by hoodlums.       Copyright� 2004. All Rights Reserved.
