Stakeholders in Ekiti State
have raised a private investigation panel to fish out those who allegedly
sponsored the killing squad which attempted to assassinate the Chairman of
Ado-Ekiti Local Government, Mr.Taiye Fasuba early last month.
Radical Lagos lawyer, Mr.
Femi Falana who made this known when he was answering reporters questions in
Ado-Ekiti on Sunday said he was in possession of the names of the assassins.
He said that as soon as the
identity of those who sponsored the killing squad were made known they would
face criminal prosecution in order to put such primitive and criminal act to an
end in the state.
Falana, a governorship
candidate in the state in the 2003general lections, also called on the
Inspector-General of Police (IG), Mr. Tafa Balogun to take action against some
police officers who refused to respond to distress call by the Ewi of
Ado-Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe when Fasuba was under siege.
He explained that the
criminal prosecution of the police officers would serve as an example to other
police officers in the country.
Falana who had paid
solidarity visits to Oba Adejugbe and chief Ojo Falegan noted that those who
allegedly sponsored the squad wanted to scare people away from the state.
Condemning the attitude of
the state police command, Falana said: We shall continue to ensure that there
is no breakdown of law and order in the state. But let me assure you that we
have the names of the squadin our possession.
He told reporters that
investigation so far indicated that the attempt was a fall out of the
intra-party wrangling, within the ruling People Democratic Party (PDP).
This means that the PDP are
against themselves, he stated.
The Nigerian Conscience Party
(NCP) chieftain appealed to the IG to ensure that everything was done to
uncover the mystery behind the incident.
