Monday, October 4th, 2004 HOME | Previous Page Police deny probe of Commissioner in Ondo By Maxwell Oditta Senior Correspondent, Lagos   Force Headquarters Annex has refuted reports of an audit probe allegedly instituted against the Ondo State Commissioner of Police and other key officers of the command, as recently published in national newspaper (not Daily Independent). Principal Staff Officer to the Inspector General of Police, Taiwo Lakanu told our correspondent in Lagos that he was not aware of any such probe panel against the Ondo State Police boss. The Assistant Commissioner of Police admonished the press against feeding the public with unconfirmed reports on sensitive security issues. “ In the police, we believe in probity. If there is something as important as the investigation of an entire state command, we should be proud to make it known to the public. Besides, the officers so investigated would have been relieved of their duties, in the interim at least, to enable the probe panel function without inhibitions,” Lakanu said. The IG’s PSO went further to explain that police accounts at all levels are audited, internally. “ We would have no occasion to invite external auditors, except there is a crisis and the Ministry of Police Affairs or the Presidency intervenes,” he added.
