Kwara, Ekiti sign social amenities’ pact

The governments of Kwara and Ekiti States have agreed to collaborate in providing social amenities for their people.

The pact was sealed after deliberations between Governors Bukola Saraki and Ayodele Fayose at Ado Ekiti and Ilorin over the weekend.

Specifically, the two states will jointly finance the construction of roads linking them. The roads are Ilofia-Erinmope-Ekiti and Osi-Etan-Ikun Ekiti roads.

Saraki who led his Ekiti counterpart to pay homage on the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari on Saturday, said such collaboration would strengthen democracy.

“Our collaboration is based on mutual ideas and belief and the desire to provide democracy dividends to our people”, Saraki explained.

The governor said the roads to be opened between the two states would further enhance the commercial status of both states and give access to its people.

“This is the time for us to face development”, Dr. Saraki said.

He appealed to the people to close ranks and support the governments of the two states.

He also prayed that the fraternity between Ekiti and Kwara states would blossom.

Fayose said as democracy grows, government would evolve policies that will improve the lots of the people and urged Kwarans to support Dr. Saraki’s administration.

He expressed appreciation of the government and people of Ekiti State to Dr. Saraki, who on Friday attended the celebration of the eighth anniversary of the state, and promised to enhance the relationship between the two states for greater benefits.

Fayose expressed appreciation to the Emir for the role played during his tribulations in the last one year, stressing that the Emir repeatedly assured him of eventual triumph.

“When God placed you in this position, He gave you a responsibility beyond Kwara and Nigeria”, Fayose told the Emir and thanked him for supporting his cause.

Alhaji Gambari praised the two governors for their commitment to good governance and urged them t remain friends forever.

“Ekiti has been a very good friend of Kwara State”, the Emir noted and advised Governors Saraki and Fayose to strengthen the relationship between them. And while the two governors were in Ado_Ekiti, The Ewi of Ado, Oba Rufus Adejugbe stressed the need for power sharing in the country to enable each geo-political unit contributes positively to the development of the nation.

Welcoming Saraki to his palace in Ado-Ekiti, Oba Adejugbe noted that there should be a meeting place for Nigerians to discuss the question of power sharing so that the country would remain together. He appealed to Saraki to assist the state governor, Ayodele Fayose in his efforts to ensure that the Federal Government grant his prayers on the allocation of take off grant to the state.
