KANO — ASSISTANT Inspector-General of Police, Zone One, Sir Kieran Z. Dudari has warned commercial motorcycle riders in Kano State popularly called (Achaba riders) that the command will no longer tolerate their insensitive quest to stage demonstrations and protest indiscriminately in the state at the instance of any accident.
The warning which was contained in a press statement signed by the zone one Police Public RelationsOfficer, ASP Muahmmadu Gambo and made available to Vanguard, condemned in strong term the demonstrationstaged by Achaba riders Tuesday because of an accident involving a Mobile Police duty truck and a motorcycle rider, that subsequently led to his death.According to the strongly worded statement, the unfortunate accident which happened Tuesday morning within the metropolitan area in that state was hijacked by then Achaba riders who carried the corpse of the accident victim round the town to instigate the public against the police.”
The Achaba riders tried to trigger the accident by carrying the corpse of the accident victim round the town for hours portraying the accident as something reminiscent of gruesome murderfor inexplicable reasons”The AIG zone one further expressed concern over the trends of the activities of Achaba riders in the state,he noted that they embark on demonstrations and protest at the slightest flimsy excuse without considering the security implications of their actions.He warned that any procession in violation of public Order act would henceforth be decisively handled by the zone, adding that no such lawlessness will be tolerated from Achaba riders or any organized groupanywhere in the zone.
He advised that any aggrieved persons or group should henceforth report their grievance to the Police as well as be ready to assist in the investigation process, saying that it is only the appropriate authority like the police that have right to execute the law of the land.The zone One PPRO however, condoled the family of the late victim of the unfortunate accident adding that though cases of accidents requires little effort to determine the direction of Blame, the police will investigate the circumstance that led to the death.
