Committee on Rehabilitation and Reconciliation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) in the crises that engulfed Plateau State says 53,787 persons were killed during the crisis.

Of this number, 18,931 were men, 17,397 were women and 17,459 were children according to Mr. Thomas Kagnaan of IDP who spoke to journalists in Jos.

He said 218,164 households were displaced while 25,129 houses, 865 shops and 1,326 cattle were lost during the crises.
According to him, public institutions such as primary and secondary schools were destroyed adding that facilities damaged in the institutions are estimated to cost over N130m.

Kagnaan stated that government was making the information available to the public in order to enable them appreciate the efforts and problems being encountered in the resettlement of displaced persons.

While describing as unfortunate the statement credited to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) that relief materials were not properly distributed, he said government would not relent in its efforts at providing relief to those returning to their abode from the places they had gone to seek refuge.

A state of emergency had been declared in Plateau State in May, after mouths of ethno-religious killings. The governor, Chief Joshua Dariye was removed, and Major. Gen Chris Alli (rtd) was appointed Sole Administrator.
