The medical emergency response outfit which was launched by Governor Sam Egwu in Abakaliki, Monday is equipped to ensure that accident victims are jointly conveyed to treatment centres while receiving appropriate life-saving management in transit. Governor Egwu urged the state ministry of health to ensure that only efficient personnel are employed to work in the outfit. He warned that the personnel must be ready to sacrifice and respond to distress calls stating that government would stop at nothing to ensure efficient services, even if it meant sending the personnel abroad for training. Egwu restated his commitment to make good health services available to the people and disclosed that the state government would soon embark on extensive work. Speaking, Health Commissioner, Dr Aloh explained that the outfit will use the State University Teaching Hospital and the Onueke General Hospitals as its base, while mobile phone numbers will be made available to the public for easy contacts. "This initial treatment of accident victims is what Medical Emergency Response Services will be offering. Also, very sick patients can reach out for medical services in their homes just by ordinary phone call."
