The newly appointed Kogi state coordinator of the National Poverty Eradication Programme (NAPEP), Dr. (Mr.) Grace Gunwa, has assumed duty promising to harness resources to fight poverty.
Speaking recently in her office, Dr. (Mrs.) Gunwa said her appointment has provided another opportunity for her to adopt a national appraoch towards poverty eradication, which would enable her harness and maximise resources for the purpose of reducing poverty in Kogi State.
According to the Kogi NAPEP Coordinator, part of the task ahead is the coordination of the activities of government agencies, Non-governmental organisation (NGOs) and donor agencies with a view to focusing their efforts to address poverty in the state.
While promising to work harmoniously with the state and local governments, Dr. Gunwa said her job involves monitoring, coordinating, cooperating, collaborating and complementing all the poverty eradication machineries in the state, adding that all resources will be pooled together and judiciously used to meet the common good of the people.
She also promised to bring her experience to bear on her present assignment.
Dr. (Mrs.) Gunwa, who disclosed that the poverty eradication progamme is not only vital but also a task that must be done, noted that all hands must be on deck to accomplish the set goals, aims and objectives of NAPEP, calling on politicians in the state to consider the interest of all Kogites as paramount, while looking forward to a good working relationship with her staff and indeed all stakeholders in the poverty eradication efforts of in the state.
A retired civil servant, Dr. (Mrs.) Grace Gunwa has worked with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as Kogi state Programme Monitoring Adviser (SPMA).
She graduated from the Ahmadu Bello Univeristy (ABU), Zaria in Zoology in 1971 and had her M.sc (1982) and PhD (1970) in agric extension and rural sociology from the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ife-Ife. She holds the traditional title of Iyegbadero of Ijumuland. |
