Thursday, October 7th, 2004 HOME | Previous Page Okija : Detectives arrive Umuahia By Chris Agbambu, Deputy Bureau Chief, Abuja   A team of detectives from the Inspector General of Police monitoring team will be in Umuahia, Abia State today to investigate the allegation that Governor Orji Uzor Kalu and his mother were patrons of shrines at Okija. This followed a complaint to the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Tafa Balogun, by one Chijioke who claimed to be one of the personal staff of Mrs. Eunice Kalu. He alleged that the governor and his mother patronised the shrines at Okija. He also alleged that most of the commissioners and political office holders were made to swear to oath of allegiance in the shrines at Okija. Chijioke also alleged that some politicians who fell out with the governor were murdered in cold blood. He even gave the names of such victims. It was learnt in Abuja on Wednesday that the coming of the police team to Umuahia to continue investigations followed the completion of preliminary investigations and collating of statements from some victims that were mentioned in the petition. Police sources also said the chief priest of Okija who in police detention in Abuja, Isaac Olisabueze, confessed that most of the claims in the petition were true. Copyright� 2004.
