The Niger Delta Development Commission
(NDDC) has donated two generating sets valued at more than N6 million to the
Redemption Songhai Farm project of Imo State government.
The state’s representative at the NDDC, Mr. Victor
Kogah, said the donation of the two 65 KVA generating sets is in recognition of
the relief the farm would bring to the people.
When inspecting facilities at ADC, Nekede, in Owerri West
Local Government, Kogah said the project is the best legacy that any government
would bequeath to its people.
He said the donation was necessary because of the incessant
power outages in the country and that the generating sets would assist in the
preservation of farm produce.
Kogah prised Governor Achike Udenwa for setting up the farm,
saying the NDDC is always ready to assist projects that impact positively on
the lives of people in the Delta region and the entire country.
He said he was encouraged and impressed with what he saw at
the farm including the poultry, fishery and piggery and advised council
chairmen to ensure that they replicate the project in their council areas.
Conducting the commissioner round the farm, the coordinator,
Prince VNC Ibenye-Ugbala said the vision of the farm is to reduce the cost of
food items in the state.
He said the farm is a demonstration project that is designed
to act as a training ground for people who have shown demonstrable interest in
creating new products.
Ibenye-Ugbala added that the farm has begun the training of
people in various aspects of agriculture.
He appealed to the NDDC to provide more working implements
like tractors for cultivation and assured that the generating sets would
further encourage those overseeing the farm to do more to ensure food surplus
in the state.
