Thursday, October 7th, 2004 HOME | Previous Page One united Nigeria is the answer I write to thank all Nigerian newspapers and magazines for a job well done.  But for the media that expose all the evils we Nigerians have been facing for a very long time, we would still be suffering as we have been suffering before. Since the inception of democracy in Nigeria in 1999, it appears as if we are going backwards because the real meaning of democracy is not being upheld and practised as Nigerians expected. That is why we are seeing one form of ethnic militants or the other. I believe that what our President is doing now, that is, having talks with the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force (NDPVF), is good provided he will do same to other groups. We are tired of ethnic warfare because it has never solved any problem at any time, it is rather worsening it and creating more problems. When people are calling for a Sovereign National Conference (SNC), to me, it is good, but we may not achieve the real purpose because of acute self-centredness inherent in our system.  What the President should do now is to invite the Press to a roundtable conference, so that they can help him in this nation building. Without the Press, how can we know that there exist ethnic militants in our country? From now till 2007 is still very far; therefore our President can still make amends towards building one united and indivisible Nigeria. May God lead you rightly in all your endeavours.
