Ibori: We have disowned Alabi over ex-convict case –– Cairo Ojougboh

By Emma Amaize
Thursday, October 07, 2004

OGHARA — CHAIRMAN of the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, says the people of the North Senatorial district in Delta State have disowned Mr. Anthony Alabi, a native of the area, who is one of the plaintiffs in the controversial ex-convict case against Governor James Ibori of Delta State.

Dr. Ojougboh who accompanied the Dein of Agbor kingdom, HRM Keagborekuzi 1, on a condolence visit to Governor Ibori in an interview with newsmen called on the Northerners and the Northern governors who went to court to ask that the onshore/offshore dichotomy abrogation Act be voided to show maturity and understanding as what they have done was a recipe and a blueprint for chaos and crisis in the country.

He said that “I am in support of Governor Ibori 100 per cent and the Alabi man, I have never met him. In fact, I am just learning from you that he is from my constituency, we disclaim him, he is on his own and we know that people who are against the governor are evil. So we see him as evil and members of my political class and Ika federal constituency completely dissociate ourselves from anything he is doing.

Dr. Ojougboh said the general understanding when the bill was passed was that it is a political solution, adding that “we do know that if the oil was sitting under the belly of the North, we know where we will be today and we know what they will ask for. A word is enough for the wise. We expect them to show maturity and understanding, otherwise, the reaction from the South can be untoward and you can see what is already happening.”
