ENUGU—ENUGU State Governor, Dr. ChimarokeNnama
ni yesterday announced the release of N10 million to Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) to put in place facilities that would enable the school retain the accreditation of its Law Faculty. Nnamani who announced this while receiving the outgoing members of the Student Union Government of the university in Enugu, reiterated his government’s commitment to the development of ESUT, adding that this informed the rapid work going on at the Teaching Hospital of the institution at Parklane, Enugu, which is expected to receive Students by the end of the month.
According to him, all the basic infrastructure at the permanent site of ESUT would be ready by December, next year for academic programme to commence. The facilities include, students’ hostel, staff quarters, auditorium, stadium, office accommodation and classrooms, and students’ hospitals as well as cafeteria.
The governor commended the Student Union Government for maintaining a 5-year academic programme without the lecturers going on strike, and further praised them for maintaining cordial relationship with the school administration and the state government. On the students’ request for the restoration of bursary award to the students, Nnamani, however, directed the Commissioner for Education to discuss with the appropriate authority with a view to meeting their demand.
President of the Students’ Union, Mr. Udekwe Chidiebere, had earlier paid a glowing tribute to the governor for his exemplary leadership and acknowledged that the governor had fulfilled the promises he made to the people of the state in spite of the opposition to his government.
He commended the landmark achievements of the government in the area of education, which ESUT had benefited immensely, in addition to the donation of a Mercedes Benz Bus as well as her Specialists Teaching Hospital at Parklane.
He requested that the government should come to the aid of the school to enable it meet up with the requirements for the accreditation of the law faculty. He also appealed to the government to help equip the school’s library in addition to the provision of some security measures to forestall movement of unwanted persons into the campus. This, he said, would enable them consolidated on the successes already made on the eradication of cultism and violence.
