AHEAD of the 2007 election in the country, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has called on other ethnic groups to reciprocate Igbo past sacrifices by supporting their agitation for the position of the president.
The president general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Ondo State chapter Chief Cyril Uzoagbado, speaking at the national Igbo day celebration in Akure, said that the dreams and aspiration of producing an Igbo president would not be compromised.
Uzoagbado urged all federal political office holders and governors of the southeast to mobilise support and rally round the apex body to actualise the ambition come 2007. “Any attempt by any group of individuals to undermine our effort should be seen as an act of sabotage and should be dealt with accordingly.
“I want to use this opportunity to call on other ethnic groups in the country to reciprocate our sacrifice over the past years by supporting the popular demand and agitation for the Nigerian president of Igbo extraction come 2007,” the president general stated.
Speaking on behalf of the president general, Chief Alloy Anoliefo condemned the failure of the Federal Government to curtail the threat to security of lives and property by the ethnic religious crises in the country.
According to him, “a situation where the practice of one particular religion is elevated to officialdom is not only an open invitation to chaos and anarchy but also runs counter to the spirit and principle of the constitution and secularity of the Nigerian nation.”
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo called for the redress of the palpable injustice and imbalance in the sharing of national cake by addressing the restiveness and agitation of various ethnic groups.
They commended the programmes of Governor Olusegun Agagu particularly the provision of basic amenities, medical and educational facilities for the benefit of the people of the state.
