Obasanjo to Present 2005 Budget Today From Kola Ologbondiyan, Andy Ekugo and Chuks Okocha in Abuja President Olusegun Oba-sanjo will today address the joint session of the National Assembly where he is expected to present the 2005 Budget. A meeting was slated between Obasanjo, the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as well as the party caucus in the National Assembly for 8pm yesterday to deliberate on the 2005 Budget. The Senate Committee on Information Chairman, Senator Tawar Wada, who confirmed that the joint session would still hold, noted that, "the Federal Government is not part of the strike (Labour organised strike to protest fuel price increase). I don't see the possibility of the budget affecting the joint sitting." "Even on the strike, labour is not callous or unreasonable; it has embarked on it to make a point. The budget is important and for the first time in the five years of this administration, Mr. President wants to submit his budget three months ahead. There should be no unnecessary delay of the budget," he said. Wada's position enjoined support from the Senate Committee on Appropriation and Finance, Senator John Azuta-Mbata, who also said that, "there is no reason why the joint session should not hold." Information available from the State Security Service (SSS) Unit of the National Assembly also told THISDAY that, "so far, we don't have reason to inform Mr. President otherwise on the presentation of the budget."
