... In Taraba Too From Takuruku Promise in Jalingo Business activities were paralysed in Jalingo, Taraba State capital, yesterday, following the strike called by Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC). THISDAY checks revealed that all government offices were under lock and key throughout the length and breadth of the state. Both public and private schools were also closed, but private hospitals opened for business while commercial vehicles were seen plying their trade. A visit to the Federal Medical Centre showed that skeletal services were rendered to patients on emergency, while most of the wards were empty. Speaking on the effect of the strike, Chairman, Association of Resident Doctors, Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo, Dr Adekunle Afolabi, said his members were allowed access to medical facilities to respond to emergency cases, adding that the hospital management has agreed to release the ambulance for use, in cases of emergency. Attempt to speak with the Centre's Medical Director failed, as he was said to be busy when our reporter called.
