Strike in Yola, Amidst Tight Security From Abel Orih Idoma in Yola The sit-at home strike action called by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in protest against recent increase in prices of petroleum products began yesterday in Yola, amidst heavy police presence in public places. THISDAY observed that scores of policemen were drafted to strategic places like the state secretariat complex, Gove-rnment House gate and all media houses in the state capital. Though filling stations and banks were mostly locked, normal activities were going on in Jimeta and Yola, but not without signs that all is not normal with situation of things around. Most government offices were open, though civil servants at the state secretariat were seen in groups discussing unofficial issues outside their offices, meaning that though they were present in their places of work, they still partly complied with the strike, call as they were not working in their offices. Normal transactions were going on at the Jimeta and Yola markets and motor parks while movement of vehicles within the towns was as usual.
