US Embassy Denies LG Chairman Visa From Shaka Momodu in Detroit Michigan, USA United States Embassy in Lagos, has debarred some Nigerians, from participating in the African World Expo Business Summit, taking place in Detroit, Michigan, by denying them entry visas on the grounds that they had no valid reasons to travel to the United States. Among those denied visas are 18 local government chairmen out of the invited 20 from across Nigeria, expected to sign the Sister-city Agreement with the City of Detroit. They had earlier signed the first stage of the agreement when the United States trade mission, led by Congresswoman Caroyln Cheeks Kilpatrick visited Nigeria in August. The agreement, according to Kilpatrick, is expected to form the basis of financial support to the select local governments in areas such as health care, education, water, community development, environment and such other basic support services that enhances communal development. Although she lamented the travelling difficulties the chairmen were experiencing, she said everything would be done to ensure that the agreement was signed, if not now,- then at a later date. She commended President Olusegun Obasanjo for the various reforms his government has initiated, expressing hope that they will get Nigeria back on track. In her words,"if Nigeria gets it right, then the whole black world would be proud. We will be very happy to see that happen. And I am sure President Obasanjo means well and is doing everything to get things right again."
