Cleric Tasks Leaders on State of the Nation
Archbishop of Lagos, Methodist Church Nigeria, His Grace, The Most Revd Sunday Ola Makinde has cautioned Nigerian leaders on the consequence of any stringest measure that might militate against the welfare and expectations of the masses.
While advising them to tread it softly with the recent increases in the pump price of petroleum products and other allied products in the country by reducing such prices, Makinde urged the leaders to embrace dialogue with a view to finding a lasting solution to the perennial problems facing the nation and promote a peaceful co-existence among all.
The cleric therefore, urged that there should be a revisit to such decisions in order to find ways to cushion the suffering of the people.
The Archbishop warned on the consequence of such policies, of which if not promptly reversed, might lead to an unimaginable event that might tend to draw back the progress of the nation.
He therefore appealed to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and other stake holders of the economy to embrace dialogue with the government in finding a lasting solution to the problem at hand, rather than going on strike and disrupt the peace of the nation.
The Archbishop enjoined Nigerians not take laws into their hands, but to strive to arrest promptly, any ugly situation that might stem out of the recent increase in pump price.
While commending the improved infractructure in the economy, the cleric was advised government to reduce the pump price through a compromise and dialogue forum, between the Labour leaders and other stake holders of the economy.
He warned that since only good governance could promote a lasting peace and understading, it therefore behoved on our leaders to please endeavour to make the welfare of the suffering masses their ultimate at all times.
He advised the leaders to always rule with the fear of God, through which the masses would always be mobilized and carried along effectively, in the translation of such lofty policies that would improve their lot, while delivering such dividends of democracy.
