Germany 2006: Oduah Charges NFA on Chukwu By Ayodeji Fashikun Former captain of the then Green Eagles, Mr. Victor Oduah has advocated for the nation's soccer administrators to learn to appreciate Nigeria's human resources rather than clamour for and pay for the services and pigment of a white man under the guise of a foreign coach for the national team. Oduah, who captained the Eagles before the present national coach, Christian Chukwu, spoke exclusively to THISDAYSports saying, "If Chukwu is given the chance he would perform. As a nation, we have not expressed confidence in him yet he's doing fine. If he loses one match now, we would call for his head. That's not how to do it." He added: "Most of the foreign coaches who have served here are not better than the Nigerian coaches. It is only our administrators have respect for them. If a foreigner asks for 10 balls they would give him 20, let Chukwu ask for 10 balls, he'll manage to get five because they would tell him there is no money." Reminiscing, he quipped: "With the second-coming of Chief Adegboye Onigbinde for France 98, had he been allowed to continue, the new team he was building would have matured. He was not allowed because he refused to let them toss him around." "I cherish Fanny Amun, Shaibu Amodu, Musa Abdullahi and all those who have served at the national team levels. There is none we have supported to succeed. There is none we have allowed to mature from the cadet teams into the senior national teams." Assessing Chukwu so far as national team handler, the former captain of the 1972 Bendel Insurance FA Cup champions said, "today, Chukwu has a deep understanding of what it takes to be national coach. He's done so well. We need a developmental attitude. There's nothing wrong with Nigerian coaches."
