Nigeria Marks World Standards Day
Nigeria, will on Thursday 14th October, join other Countries of the World to celebrate World Standards Day with the theme "Standards Connect the World".
In a statement in Lagos, Dr. John N. Akanya the Director-General/Chief Executive, Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) disclosed that his Organisation has lined-up activities including Seminars, a National Symposium, a Walk for Standards, Presentation of the NIS Product Quality Awards and Exhibition to mark the day.
Akanya said sensitisation seminars on the "Benefits of Standardisation and Quality Assurance" activities have been held in Lagos, Lokoja and Aba for Stakeholders on exports and imports as part of the celebrations, while the _Walk for Standards" took place in Lagos on October 9th 2004.
He stated further that a National Symposium with the theme "Standardisation and the National Economy" has been scheduled for the Old Senate Chamber, Tafawa Balewa Square,
Lagos, on Monday October 11th 2004.
This year's celebrations according to him will include three days of exhibition and sales of the award winning products at the Main Bowl; of Tarawa Blew Square Lagos, from Tuesday October 12 2004.
Akanya said October 14, 2004 the World Standards Day will witness presentation of Nigerian Industrial Standards (NIS) Product Quality Awards and tour of Products Fair/Exhibition at the Tarawa Blew Square.
The SON Chief Executive reiterated that the NIS Product Quality Awards are in various categories of Bronze, Silver, Gold and Diamond and advised Nigerians to take advantage of the low pricing of products by Manufacturers at the exhibition.
While inviting all Nigerian citizens and residents to the events and exhibition of Made-In-Nigeria quality products, the Director General said the activities would be rounded-off with the presentation of Gold and Diamond Plaques at the Eko Hotel and Suites also on October 14, 2004.
