Raw Materials Institute, MAN to Hold Workshop
Atwo-day national stakeholders consultative meeting designed to strengthen Nigeria's commitment to the local production of industrial raw materials is scheduled to take place from October 20-21, 2004 at Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) House, in Ikeja, Lagos.
The meeting would be the Second National Stakeholders Consultative Meeting on Outgrowers Scheme and Backward Integration Strategy as a vehicle for Producing raw material requirements for our Agro-based industries.
The event is a joint public-private sector programme organised by the Raw Materials Research and Development Council in collaboration with the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, (MAN); NACCIMA; and NASME.
The opening session of the meeting is expected to be addressed by Prof. T.T.Isoun, Minister of Science and Technology; Ambassador Magaji Mohammed, Minister of Industry; and Engr. Charles Ugwuh, President of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria.
Participation is also expected from the Special Adviser to the President on Manufacturing as well as the Special Adviser on Africa Growth and Opportunity Act. The Special Assistant to the President on Food Security; the Special Assistant on SME matters; and the Director General of Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) are also expected to address the meeting.
Further participation is expected from multinational small and medium-scale industries; research institutes and commodity growers Associations.
Private sector representatives include: Cadbury Nigeria Plc; Nigerian Breweries Plc, Unilever Nigeria Plc; PZ Industries Plc; Dunlop Nigeria Plc; Michelin Nigeria Plc; NASCO Group of Companies; and UAC of Nigeria Plc.
Major agro-based commodity Associations expected at the stakeholders meeting include representatives of growers of maize, cassava, cocoa, gum Arabic, sesame seed, oil palm; Kenaf and Poultry Association of Nigeria. Presentations at debriefing sessions are expected from the following research institutes; IAR&T;, Ibadan; NIHORT, Ibadan; NCRI, Badegi; NIFOR, Benin; National Seed Service; University of Agriculture, Abeokuta and University of Agriculture, Markurdi.
