Katsina Govt Spends N766 Million on Housing

The Katsina State Government has committed about N766 million to the construction of 272 low cost houses within Katsina metropolis. This was announced by the state commissioner for works, Engr, Bala Banye , recently.

He explained that the construction of the housing estate was being financed through a loan facility from the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), in Abuja.

The bank, he said, gave the state government about N600 million loan facility and that more was still being expected from the bank.

The commissioner also announced that about 398 various low cost flats had been sold to civil servants in the state since the inception of this administration.

He said the new low cost houses now under construction would also be sold to the general public, but the government, he added had not agreed on the modality of selling them.

The commissioner said that in Kankia, 33 flats were sold to civil servants as well as in Daura where 34 flats were sold to the same category of people.

He equally informed newsmen that the state legislative quarter along Kaita Road, which members of the State House of Assembly refused to occupy, had been allocated to people in the state.

Engineer Banye stated that nearly every part of the state has its fair share of the low cost housing estate which had been sold to the people of such areas.Meanwhile,12 ministries and some parastatals have been slated to move into the completed N3.1 billion Katsina State Secretariat.

The works commissdioner who dropped this hint last week said that all arrrangements had been concluded to ensure that civil servants in the state move their offices to the new secrrtariat along Kano/Katsina Road.

Already, the Secretary to the state Government, Dr. Zayyad Rumah, along with his top aides, has moved into the secretariat complex.

The commissioner stated that the new secretariat, which its foundation was laid in 1991 to cost about N900 million intially.
