Udenwa lauds military over service
GOVERNOR Achike Udenwa of Imo State has commended the Nigerian Army for its continued loyalty to the civil authority and its exploits in peace-keeping operation outside the country.
Udenwa made the commendation yesterday in Owerri while receiving in his office the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division, Nigeria Army Enugu, Maj.-Gen. Dan Adewuyi.
The governor urged the military to continue to protect the nation's territorial integrity and charged them to sustain the country's democracy.
For a sustainable development to evolve in the country, he said that every segment of the populace has a role to play.
His words: "The exploits of Nigerian Army in peace-keeping operations and its role in sustaining democracy are commendable."
Speaking earlier, Adewuyi said he was in the state to seek approval from the governor to allow the hosting in Owerri of this year's Chief of Army Conference slated in December.
He added that Army chiefs from all over the country are expected to converge in Owerri, urging the state government to extend its usual hospitality and friendship to the officers during the conference.
Though he did not mention the exact date for the conference, the GOC expressed gratitude to Udenwa for the friendly posture of his government towards military personnel in the state.`
