PDP intervenes in Kogi chapter crisis
From John-Abba Ogbodo, Abuja

THE leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the weekend waded into the crisis of confidence rocking the Kogi State branch of the party.

A statement issued by the Special Assistant to the state Governor on media, Farouk Adejoh Audu, said the reconciliatory meeting, which took place at the weekend, had in attendance all the big-wigs of the party in Kogi, including Senator A.T Ahmed.

The statement further said the Kogi politicians led by Senator Tunde Ogbeha and A.T. Ahmed who accused Governor Ibrahim Idris of undermining their influence through the way contracts were awarded by the governor to those who did not suffer to establish the party in the state.

The statement also said the group alleged that the governor rejected their nominees for appointment and instead went to the local councils to ask for nomination.

The statement also said the senators claimed that the party was nurtured into the current structure by some people therefore, they deserved to be recognised.

The governor, according to the statement, explained that he had to resort to the council level because he felt that was a more realistic and a way to get to the people at the grassroots.

The governor also explained that other forms of patronage had to be subjected to the same process, stressing that it did not go down well with some politicians in the state.

But the governor stood his ground saying it was the best evenly spread patronage, adding that it was not designed to hurt any one.

The national Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Audu Ogbeh was said to have commended the governor for his steadfastness but added that the state political leaders should be recognised to avoid conflicts.

Ogbeh stressed that the party was grateful to the state chapter for the victory recorded at the polls.
