AKURE— THE controversy trailing the Deji of Akureland stool yesterday took a new dimension as the Osupa ruling House expected to present candidate for the throne disowned Chief Olu Falae as the head of the ruling House. A faction had appointed Chief Olu Falae, a chieftain of the Afenifere as the Head/chairman of the Osupa ruling House after the stool was vacant for over five years
But, in a statement in Akure, spokesman for the ruling house, Prince Sunday Faloye said that Chief Adebimpe Ige Ogunleye has been unanimously elected with 164 votes as successor to the late Chief Ogunlade who died about two months ago According to Prince Faloye the general election of the ruling house was held at Oyemekun, Arakale on July 24 this year.
Faloye said that the Osupa ruling House said ““Chief Olu Falae has never attended any meeting of Osupa Ruling House at its Igbehin general meeting place before and has never been known, whether through his biography or autobiography or indeed any publication or through participation in any Osupa Ruling House activities
“We members of Osupa Ruling House want to categorically that Falae has neither been nor is he our new Head. Chief (Dr) Adebimpe Ige Ogunleye, Obajimo of Akure is Osupa Ruling House’’s new Head/Chairman in succession to late chief Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade who demised last July”” the statement added.
Chief Femi Alewi, the PRO said whose membership of Osupa Ruling House has always been controversial is not and has never been secretary of Osupa Ruling house.
The election held to appoint an acting head of Osupa Ruling house after the demise of Chief Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade, the erstwhile head/chairman, only Chief Adebimpe Ige Ogunleye, the Obajimo of Akure was nominated and seconded without opposition to start acting as head/chairman. This was on 30/7/2004 at the Alayere Country home of late Chief Ogunlade.
Contacted, the camp of Chief Olu Falae said that he remains the head of the ruling house.
Chief Falae was said to have gone to the farm when vanguard contracted his residence on phone, but one of his aides said that the other faction was “only making noise.”
