WARRI — A YOUNG man who allegedly killed his nonagenarian uncle, buried him in a shallow pit at Eziokpor Obiogo in Ukwuani local government area of Delta state, and joined a village search party in a wild goose chase for him for four consecutive days, has been arrested by the police.
The reason for the cold-blooded murder is not yet known, but sources in the village said the young man who is a nephew of the deceased was a black sheep in the family. Luck ran out of the suspect, who is now cooling off his heels in police custody when in his bid to hang the murder on somebody else, he waylaid an itinerant Hausa man who was walking pass their family land and accused him of being a dangerous man and possibly, one of those that killed his uncle.
Before the dazed Hausa man knew it, he had been overpowered and dragged towards the pit where the old man was buried.
Those who saw his restless attitude within the period the search for the deceased was on, thought he was genuinely disturbed by the fate that befell the late Nwado. At the place he buried his uncle, the suspect forcefully pushed the Hausa man to the ground and raised alarm that he was the killer.
This was after removing the N2,000 found in his purse. But some villagers were curious that while the search for the deceased lasted, the suspect usually went to the same direction which he dragged the Hausa man to, apparently to cover the corpse with more grasses and dry leaves. They wondered why he did not see the corpse since then for it was apparent that the Hausa man knew nothing about the late Nwado. The suspect knew that the game was up when he saw the consensus of opinion on the incident and he took to his heels. He then attempted to kidnap an Okada rider who he hired in his escape bid at the boundary between his town and Amai community.
