Tuesday, October 12th, 2004 HOME | Previous Page Police assess strike, says they�re in control By Chris Agbambu Deputy Bureau Chief, Abuja   The Force Headquarters on Monday, claimed that general security report collated from all over the nation indicates that the situation in the country is peaceful and the police is on top of the situation. Force Public Relations Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Chris Olakpe in an interview on Monday with Daily Independent in Abuja, said that the Inspector General of Police, Tafa Balogun has vowed to protect all law-abiding citizens in the country. According to him, �Our police network is busy protecting all highways, key and vulnerable points in the country.� Olakpe also disclosed that decoy policemen are all over the place, and the police high command has mounted a very tight security apparatus in order to maintain law and order nationwide. He maintained that markets were opened and people going about their lawful businesses because of police protection all over the country. The Force spokesman however, added that Balogun has warned hoodlums not to take the opportunity to fan the embers of discord as his men are ready to crush any such dissident behaviour and they will be made to face the law. �The general security situation is that the police is on top of the situation as people have been going about their businesses without any fear of harassment,� Olakpe said.   Copyright� 2004.
