Cleric asks Nigerians to pray

By Chinwendu Nnadozie

Special Correspondent, Minna

As the sit-at-home strike kicked off nationwide on Monday, an Islamic cleric in Niger State has appealed to Nigerians to pray for the country and its leaders for the much expected peace to reign.

The cleric, who is the Secretary of the Niger state Shariah Commission, Alhaji Isa Musa Lapai reacting to the on going strike reminded Muslims that embarking on industrial strike was against the tenets of Islam.

Lapai told journalists that the important thing for every Muslim to do at this time was to be closer to Allah and to seek for His intervention at times like this.

The government, according to him, may be acting ignorantly of what befalls Nigerians with present economic reforms, pointing out however that challenging the government would not bring automatic solution to the numerous problems bedevilling the country except through Allahs intervention.

He, therefore enjoined Nigerians to pray fervently for the betterment of Nigeria now and in the years ahead.

Banks within the state were closed to customers with some staff within.

The Federal secretariat Minna was under lock and key as no staff showed up for work . The state secretariats doors were partially open with mainly security men loitering around the premises.

At government hospitals and schools, the situation was pitiable. The General Hospital was deserted, as some of the admitted patients were seen leaving the hospital for private ones due to the absence of doctors and nurses to attend to attend to them.
