Obasanjo should resign over fuel price crisis Etubom Bassey

By Bassey Inyang,

Correspondent, Calabar

The incessant problem that is bedevilled the petroleum industry in Nigeria will not end except President Olusegun Obasanjo is forced to resign from office, radical politician and kingmaker in Efik Kingdom, Etubom Bassey Ekpo Bassey has stated.

Bassey in his backing the call made by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), urging Nigerians to embark on strike from Monday, said the labour union should go beyond strike and press for the resignation of Obasanjo from office.

The politician who expressed total support for the strike enjoined the NLC to review its policy and ensure that the strike ends only after the president would have resigned.

He pointed out that demanding a reversal to the former pump price amounts to postponing the evil days and availing Obasanjo more opportunity to emasculate the labour.

I support the strike but think that there should be a table of demands, which should include forcing Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to resign as president of Nigeria.

To restrict themselves to demanding a reversal to old prices for petroleum products is to postpone the evil day, because Obasanjo can accept and then proceed with his plan to emasculate labour, Bassey stated while speaking with newsmen in Calabar. The radical politician contended that the fuel price regime put in place by government was a product of extreme irresponsible economic policy of deregulation designed to further oppress the people.
