Tuesday, October 12th, 2004 HOME | Previous Page Strike partially successful in Ekiti By David Atalese, Special Correspondent,  Ado-Ekiti   The nationwide industrial action, which commenced on Monday was partially observed in Ekiti State. Most of the federal and state governments� offices were opened but junior officers were absent from their tables. Enquiries by the Daily Independent around the state revealed that local government secretariats were locked up, while security officers kept vigil over their respective offices. In Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, most of the commercial banks were not opened for businesses but markets were functioning, while taxi cabs and commercial buses operators also plied the major highways. Armed policemen were stationed at strategic positions to prevent possible breakdown of law and order but petrol filling stations were also closed down for businesses. All government hospitals, maternity centres and other health institutions were functioning at the time Daily Independent visited them to find out if their staff complied with the directives of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) that they should embark on the strike.   Copyright� 2004.
