Tuesday, October 12th, 2004 HOME | Previous Page Borno partially observes strike By Haruna Abdul, Special Correspondent, Maiduguri      The nationwide strike in Borno State recorded a partial success as  normal commercial activities went on uninterrupted in Maiduguri, the state capital.     Daily Independent observed that most of the business outfits including the famous Monday market ,Maiduguri were opened in the morning while commuters were also seen plying the roads as usual. However, all government establishments as well as other commercial institutions were under locks and keys as heavily armed security personnel were spotted at several locations guarding some of the government offices.   At the state and federal secretariats, workers who were sceptic over the success of the strike were forced back by some of the state labour officials posted to several office gates early in the morning to prevent workers from going to work. Daily independent also visited the University of Maiduguri as well as the State Polytechnic where it was observed that most of the staff offices especially the Administrative and academic units were not opened, just as students were seen loitering on the campus.         Copyright� 2004.
