Idris, Dutse WORRIED by the condition of flood victims, Jigawa state government has approved the release of N15 million to provide relief materials to them. Similarly, government had approved N25 million for bulk purchase of relief materials by the state ministry of Relief and Emergency. A source close to the ministry who demanded anominity said the N15 million would be distributed to 15 local government councils to purchase relief materials. The sources explained that so far flood had washed away farm lands and houses in 17 local government council areas. According to the source, the flood has caused the death of 10 people in three local government areas. The source further explained that very soon the state ministry of Relief and Emergency would set-up a monitoring unit to monitor the disbursement of relief materials by the local government councils. "We hope that the distribution of the relief materials will alleviate the suffering of the flood victims", the source said. The source appealed to the National Emergency and Management Agency (NEMA) to cone to the aid of the nation. The sources however explained that although, the agency has notified Jigawa state government for providing four lorries of relief materials, but such materials were diverted by one of the members of the House of Representatives.
