local government areA of Kano state Alhaji Jamilu Abubakar, has advised the
people of the state to always abide by the teachingS of Islam which preaches
peace, unity, and honesty among the Muslims.
Alhaji Abdurrahaman gave the advice while passing
judgment in a case involving a husband and his wife in which the court ruled
that it is always the responsibility of a husband to feed his children after
divorce until the children attain the age of maturity.
The husband, Alhaji Nasidi Muhammad who was dragged
before the court for abandoning his wife with her child other they were
divorced was ordered by Khadi Abdurrahaman to pay the sum of seven hundred
and fifty Naira for the feeding of the child. The amount is for one month
and the father will continue to pay the amount for the child�s up keep until
he attains a certain age of maturity as provided by the Islamic law.
The Khadi who passed judgment in most of the cases
brought before the court on that day strictly on the basis of Islam warned
that people must always accept that Kano state is a truly Sharia state and
would continue to remain so until all Muslims in the state have come to
appreciate the efforts of the state government on Sharia implementation for
their own benefit.
Observers in the court have showered blessings on the
state governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, for his foresight to ensure
prevalence of the Sharia legal system in the state.
The Khadi, according to observer is indeed a true symbol,
of reputable Khadis whose appointment by the state government should be
encouraged and supported because of his unbiased attitudes in the
dispensation of justice as stipulated under Sharia legal system and such
caliber of judges will certainly contribute greatly towards the success of
Sharia which is aimed at sanitizing our society.
Alhaji Abdurrahaman mentioned in one of the cases he
tried in the court on that day of the readiness of the state government to
intensify efforts on the use of Sharia in full scale in all Sharia courts
abound within the municipal area and the 44 local government areas of the
state so as to awaken Muslims to remain loyal, honest and disciplined in
their dealings with one another.
In an interview with the Daily Triumph after the
court session, the Judge stressed the need for the state government to come
to the assistance of his court by renovating the court room and the premises
as well as providing ceiling fans, furniture and a pit latrine for public
and staff use.
