TUESDAY, OCTOBER 12 , 2004           Igbo deserve presidency - Okorie APGA national chairman, Chief Chekwas Okorie, says the Igbo deserve a shot at the Presidency by 2007. Fielding questions on the next presidential race, Okorie told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the South-East geo-political zone was most qualified to produce the next president because of the area�s stabilising force in the polity. �As an Igboman, I naturally see it as a legitimate quest. And you see, we have been a stabilising force in the political equation of this country. �Besides, the Igbo have been marginalisedsince the civil war. Therefore, in the spirit of full national integration, they deserve the presidential slot now.�� He explained that Igbos had had a successful history of political cooperation with the North and South-West in the first, second and third republics. �The Igbos therefore, expect a reciprocal gesture from other allies to make our democracy tick,�� the APGA leader urged. Okorie advised that there should be � sincerity in the �No victor, No vanquished� principle of national resolution, reconciliation and reintegration��. He reaffirmed that APGA had zoned the 2007 presidential ticket to the South-East, and urged other political parties to grant the Igbos the opportunity to produce a credible presidential candidate.
