ONE-TIME gubernatorial candidate in Kano state on the
platform of (PSP), Dr. Umar Yakubu Danhassan has said that they have
reconciled their differences between him and the former governor of Kano
state, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, now minister of defence at personal level
but not politically.
Speaking to a cross section of journalists in the state
capital during the week, Alhaji Danhassan said what put their heads on
collision course was based on issues that are so trivial but weightier in
their outlook.
He said though several attempts were made by their
friends to reconcile them before the conduct of the gubernatorial elections,
that effort however, yielded the desired result.
Dr. Danhassan who was emphatic on the issue, stated: We
have met severally to talk about what separated us but only iron out that
which was personal, but deliberately forgot the political aspects.
He stress that he is still in the PSP and is comfortable
with his unique position.
Danhassan who seems to be a lone fighter, said its true
that such a dogged fight led his party to victory in Kura local government
area, saying efforts will be made to strengthen the PSP to take control of
the state come 2007.
Commenting on the series of meetings organized by his
ardent supporters at his residence, he said it was aimed at re-engineering
the party and to make the group be more alive and combatant for any
challenges.
On why he has not come out boldly to side with either of
the presidential hopefuls in town he said: I was not contacted by any of
the presidential candidates but when ever Im contacted I will study first
the manifesto of the aspirant and see if it tallies with that of my party
and then I may render my support where necessary.
On his closeness to Vice President Atiku Abubakar, he
dispelled the rumour, saying that he has only been so close to the VP only
at a peripheral level.
On his future political ambition, he said he will not
pre-empt himself now as it will be good to allow time and events to speak
for themselves.
He used the opportunity to call on all and sundry to cooperate with the
government at all levels so that democracy will thrive on a sound pedestal.
