Bauchi spends N3.3bn on rural electrification

From SULE ALIYU, Bauchi

GOVERNOR Ahmadu Adamu Muazu of Bauchi state has said that his administration has committed the sum of N3.03 billion to rural electrification projects sluice sincce 1999.

Muazu announced this last week at Jurara village in Jamaare local government while commissioning Jurara/Fatere rural electrification project executed at the cost of N39 million by former head of state, General Abdulsalami A. Abubakar.

According to him, the project was intended to improve the welfare of the people as part of governments rural transformation programmes and its desire to uplift the standard of living of the rural populace.

Governor Muazu explained that out of 219 villages in slated for electrification, 123 have so far been provided with the facilities.

He described General Abubakar as an astute soldier, an elder statesman and a gentleman of honour who fulfilled his promise of returning the country to democracy at the stipulated period.

We all recall the emergence of General Abubakar at a critical period when it mattered most. His transition programme culminated in what today we call nascent democracy, the governor opined.

Muazu had earlier at the commissioning of Adamami-Jamaare road executed at a cost of N476.4 million, said that the state government is establishing an agency for road maintenance.

He explained that when it fully takes off, the agency will be properly staffed, funded and equipped to be able to monitor the condition of road projects and carry out timely repairs where necessary.

General Abubakar had during the commissioning of Adamami-Jamaare road noted that the provision of democratic dividends to the people is the most important test of good leadership under the current political dispensation.

The best guarantee for sustainable democracy is economic empowerment of the vast majority of Nigerians, Abdulsalami said, adding: I do not intend to over-praise the achievements, I have so far witnessed by the administration of Governor Muazu which has performed exceptionally well compared with what I have seen in other states of eh federation.

It is indeed a confirmation of the various reports I have been hearing about the great transformation process of Bauchi state, he added.

He said the history of Bauchi state would be incomplete without due recognition to Governor Muazu who he said is committed to the sustenance of the nations nascent democracy.

He observed that the commissioning of Adamami road and Jurara electrification projects would enhance the socio-economic development of the people in the areas and appealed to the benefiting communities to safeguard the facilities against misuse and vandalisation.
