Masari Pledges to Intervene in Fuel Price Hike From Efem Nkanga in Uyo Speaker of the House of Representatives,Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari has promised to impress upon the Federal Government the need to revert back to the old pump price of petroleum products. Masari made the pledge in Uyo at a joint session yesterday with the Akwa Ibom sttae House of Assembly in an address to represenmtaives of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and civil societies. He promised to continue to identify with the Nigerian people through legislations aimed at promoting their welfare. The speaker who was in the state on a special programme of the House of Representatives tagged ''we serve you,'' commended the people of the state for being peaceful people who never use violence to ask for their rights. At the session, the state lawmakers decried the non functional state of Federal Establishments in the state and called for the resusitation of the Nigerian Newsprint Manufa-cturing company in Oku Iboku and that of the Aluminuim Smeltering plant in Ikot Abasi.ALSCON. The state lawmakers also restated the call for Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited to relocate its headquaters to Akwa Ibom state. Alhaji Masari promised to look into the demands of the people of Akwa Ibom. Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Chief Nelson Efiong commended the NLC and coalition of civil societies in the state for their non violent approach to the strike action. In his remarks, the state chairman of the NLC, Comrade Udo Kyrian Akpan expressed appreiciation to the House for standing on the side of the people and urged the House to put presssure on the Federal Government to revert the price of fuel to its old pump price.
