Group Hails Compliance in Kwara
From Tunde Sanni in Ilorin

A Pro-democracy outfit, the Civil Society Groups in Kwara State, (CISGIK) comprising of five civil groups has lauded the level of compliance of the on going strike which entered the secnod day yesterday.

The group in a press statement made available to THISDAY urged the people of the state to sustain the strike until the Federal Government is made to reverse the controversial fuel hike price. "The insensitivity of the Obasanjo regime to the plight of the common people must be challenged by all and sundry, the statement said." The civil groups, the United Action for Democracy (UAD), the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), the Imole Progressive Movement (IPM), the Association for Demcratic Citizens (ADC) and Community Development and Welfare Agenda (CODWA), blamed the Federal Government for the hardship in the country which they argued was occasioned by its insensitivity to the plight of the masses. "What Nigerians bargained for after a prolonged military dictatorship is not civil dictatorship which the Obasanjo government represents." The group told the masses, "the price of liberty is eternal vigilance, therefore we must mobilise, conscientise and organise ourselves for the dismantling of all dictatorial hegemonies." The outfit pleaded with the people of the state to support the strike until the prices of petroleum products are reversed. Meanwhile all public institutions for the second time in one week remained closed in the state, even as the effect of the strike started to manifest. Publc taps have remained dry as workers of the state water corporation refused to pump water to homes thus making residents to embark on a long search for water.
