Banks, Schools Shut in Warri From Onwuka Nzeshi in Warri The nationwide strike took a partial toll on economic activities in Warri yesterday as banks, schools and markets remained shut. The action was however, hijacked by some hoodlums at about midday. But while most banks shut their front gates to customers, some of them operated skeletal services through the back door, apparently succumbing to pressures from some of their customers who needed cash to survive the strike. Hoodlums took advantage of the strike to unleash terror on some traders and motorists who dared to open for business. The hoodlums who posed as strike enforcement teams harassed vehicle owners and forced even cyclists plying the routes to bear green leaves. some motorists were dispossessed of their belongings by the hoodlums who accused them of sabotaging the strike. One group stormed the Warri main market at about 1.00 pm and forced traders to close shop. The stampede that their action generated caused panic around the mover market, sand-sand market and Ibo market. Even stalls on the nearby streets were forced to shut down.
