No Room for Terrorists in Nigeria -IG

The inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Tafa Balogun has said the Police would deploy everything at its disposal to checkmate the activities of terrorist groups in the country.

Balogun, who made the pledge in Abuja yesterday when a team of United Nations (UN) officials visited him in his office to discuss the activities of the Alquelda Talliban, stated that it was the resolve of the current administration in the country to checkmate all manners of religious bigotry, terrorism, money laundering, drug trafficking, trans border criminality and other forms of violent crimes in the West Africa subregion. The IGP, in a statement signed by the Force Public Relations officer (FPRO), Mr. Chris Olapke, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), also told the UN team, who were also in his office in his capacity as the chairman, West Africa Police Chiefs Committee (WAPCCO), further said a collaborative effort of all security agenies in the country and other countries of the subregion, was necessary to substain the relative calm and brotherliness currently existing among Africam countries. He called on all stakeholders on matters of security in the country and the West Africa subregion to seriously sensitise their people towards monitoring the evils of terrorists or other dissident groups in their respective dormains. Responding, the leader of the UN team, Mr. Wilson Kalumba, a Zambian, applauded the standard of policing in Nigeria, noting that there had been no record of terrorism in the country. According to him, the meaningful presence of bthe police at major places and highways in the country was doing a lot at discouraging crime or terrorist activitiers. He urged other countries within the subregion to follow the example of Nigeria.
